How we write

Every guide we publish meets four standards before it ships:

1. The first sentence is the answer — readers who only read one line still get what they came for.
2. Every numeric claim links to a primary source. We cite HUD, BLS, Census, IRS, and a small number of vetted private datasets (Apartment List, Zillow). We never repeat a number we cannot trace to a public dataset.
3. We update dateModified when we change content — not when we change code. The "last updated" date you see is real.
4. We have opinions and we name them. The 30% rule is wrong for incomes under $80K in HCOL cities. Splitting rent evenly across unequal rooms is unfair. Every guide tells you what we think, why, and shows the math.
